Atomos Announces Up to DCI 4Kp60 Full-Frame ProRes RAW Recording From Sony’s FX6 Camera and Shogun 7 https://news.broadfield.com/atomos-announces-up-to-dci-4kp60-full-frame-prores-raw-recording-from-sonys-fx6-camera-and-shogun-7/ Wed, 18 Nov 2020 21:00:59 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=17011 Atomos has just released a press release announcing some new exciting news. Atomos announced Up to DCI 4Kp60 full-frame ProRes RAW recording from Sony’s FX6 camera and Shogun 7.

Check out the press release below

Melbourne, Australia – 17 November, 2020: Atomos is delighted to announce Apple ProRes RAW recording support for Sony’s new FX6 professional camera with full-frame sensor; which natively outputs RAW over SDI. This is all made possible with the Atomos Shogun 7 which will record pristine ProRes RAW images at up to DCI 4Kp60. The resulting images have amazing detail and a high degree of latitude to utilize in post-production – optimal for HDR finishing or to give greater flexibility in
SDR (Rec.709).

The Shogun 7 & FX6 combination
Recording over SDI from the FX6 to the Shogun 7 extends the performance of the class leading
professional camera by taking 16bit linear RAW data from its state-of-the-art Exmor R™ sensor and
recording it in the flexible and efficient ProRes RAW format. Recorded with log 12bit color depth,

corresponding to over 68 billion color graduations. FX6’s standard professional interface of 12G-SDI and SDI RAW output direct from the main camera body allows for a very powerful professional combination when used with the Atomos Shogun 7. Content creators and filmmakers also benefit from the storage advantage of ProRes RAW, where the
codec harnesses the ability to capture 12bit RAW in the same file sizes as 10bit 422 standard ProRes. In addition to their ground-breaking combination of flexibility and performance, Apple ProRes RAW files are smaller than other RAW file types – simplifying and accelerating file transfer, media management, and archiving.

Jeromy Young, Atomos CEO, said: “I’m thrilled to be continuously working with the team at Sony to bring this to life and to add another of Sony’s camera to our ProRes RAW ecosystem. The flexibility and convenience of ProRes RAW makes the FX6 and Shogun 7 a perfect combination for any
filmmaker seeking perfect colors and amazing latitude in post.”

About Shogun 7
The Shogun 7 is the ultimate 7-inch HDR monitor, recorder and switcher a true multi-purpose production monitor. Precision-engineered for the film and video professional, it uses the very latest video technologies available to deliver HDR and SDR monitoring you can trust. It features a highly
accurate 1920×1200 HDR screen that is 3000nits in Peak HDR and 1500nits in daylight-viewable mode and displays 15+ stops of dynamic. It records to AtomX SSDmini or other approved SATA SSD drives for maximum reliability using proven standards. These are cost effective with a much lower cost per GB than proprietary memory cards. The pairing of Sony’s handheld FX6 deserves a flagship monitor to suit. Apart from recording to
ProRes RAW the Shogun 7’s portable size lets you monitor, analyze and tag while on set. The HDR monitor-recorder-switcher is a completely flexible master recording and production station. Add to this, features ranging from asynchronous multicamera switching, a 3000nit screen, improved monitor
assist tools, frame guides for Social/CDN production, Dolby Vision® playout for HDR delivery and creators have more power to achieve their creative vision than ever before.

ProRes RAW- the new standard for RAW
ProRes RAW continues to build momentum in 2020 now with over 20 cameras supporting the Atomos and ProRes RAW combination, cementing its position as the industry standard for RAW video capture. ProRes RAW combines the visual and workflow benefits of RAW video with the incredible real-time performance of ProRes. The format gives filmmakers enormous latitude when adjusting the look of their images and extending brightness and shadow detail, making it ideal for HDR workflows. Both ProRes RAW, and the higher bandwidth, less compressed ProRes RAW HQ are supported. Manageable file sizes speed up and simplify file transfer, media management, and archiving. ProRes RAW is fully supported in Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere Pro along with a collection of other apps including ASSIMILATE SCRATCH, Colorfront, FilmLight Baselight and Grass Valley Edius.

*World First* Atomos Unveils RAW Over HDMI https://news.broadfield.com/world-first-atomos-unveils-raw-over-hdmi/ Mon, 28 Jan 2019 21:09:09 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=12083 atomos_rawAtomos unveils Apple ProRes RAW recording solution compatible with Nikon Z 7 and Z 6 full-frame mirrorless cameras at CES 2019.

2019 is all about taking content creation to the next level. Video makers everywhere are looking to add that elusive cinematic quality to their work, whether that be on social media, YouTube or on TV. To answer those needs, Atomos today unveils the next revolution in digital imaging – RAW video output and capture from Nikon’s full frame mirrorless cameras. The Nikon Z 7 and Z 6 full-frame mirrorless cameras will work together with the Atomos Ninja V 4K HDR monitor/recorder to record Apple’s ProRes RAW video format.

The upcoming feature will be on display in the Nikon booth (#14006) during the CES® 2019 show.

Capturing Apple ProRes RAW video with the Ninja V unlocks complete control of the video image at the highest quality possible. The maximum dynamic range, color accuracy and detail is preserved, while at the same time every aspect of the video image can be controlled with precision for maximum creativity. Colors can be easily matched and the extra information means footage can be easily be manipulated in post-production, which is especially useful for grading and VFX shots.

Atomos and Nikon Inc. (Melville, NY) are offering video creators the new Z 6 Filmmaker’s kit too – also announced at CES. The full-frame Nikon Z 6 camera is the video production powerhouse at the center of the kit. Paired with the Atomos Ninja V monitor/recorder and other accessories, it has everything required for professional video shooting and beautiful photographs. The combination can currently shoot brilliant full-frame video in 10-bit 422 ProRes and DNx professional video formats, with ProRes RAW to be added.

Atomos CEO Jeromy Young said:

“It’s a really exciting time for high quality cinematic video on every platform from Facebook to Netflix. Our customers are increasingly making their livings creating this content and we love giving them the affordable tools they need to do it. Our $695 Ninja V delivers better image quality without sacrificing amazing features like autofocus and high megapixel stills. Through partnering with great companies like Nikon, we have built solutions that are easy to use and look great.”

Until now, RAW video has been the domain of dedicated cinema cameras that are either limited in features or priced far beyond the reach of most consumers. Now Atomos is giving content creators the same quality and flexibility in video that they have come to expect from RAW photos.

How it works – In simple terms, the camera outputs a stream of RAW data via a 4K HDMI cable to the Ninja V. This data is then repacked into the ProRes RAW format and recorded to a removable SSD drive in the Ninja V. When shooting is finished, the drive is removed and connected to a computer via USB. Footage can then be decoded (debayered) and edited in the highest possible quality. Using ProRes RAW format keeps file sizes manageable, easy to edit and future-proof.

Additional details, including the release timing will be shared at a later date.
