Panasonic Connect Launches New Cameras, Expands NDI Support https://news.broadfield.com/panasonic-connect-launches-new-cameras-expands-ndi-support/ Mon, 21 Oct 2024 14:00:00 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=29994 Panasonic Connect has expanded its professional video lineup by introducing three new 4K cameras and enhancing its support for NDI (Network Device Interface) across its 4K integrated camera range. NDI, a protocol designed for low-latency IP-based video connectivity, simplifies workflows by enabling seamless communication between AV devices over standard gigabit networks. This development opens up possibilities for streamlined video production in various industries, including live events, education, and corporate environments.

One of the key highlights is the AK-UCX100 4K studio camera, designed for live event environments where lighting and background conditions are constantly changing. The camera features high sensitivity, dynamic range, and enhanced colorimetry to handle challenging lighting scenarios, particularly with LED lighting and large display walls. The AK-UCX100 is also compatible with Panasonic’s recently launched AK-UCU700 Camera Control Unit (CCU), making it suitable for traditional studio setups and live event broadcasting. With 2000 TV lines of resolution, it delivers sharp, ultra-high-definition images, allowing event professionals to capture immersive content.

Additionally, Panasonic Connect introduced two new 4K multi-purpose cameras—the AW-UB50 and AW-UB10—tailored for diverse production sites. These compact, box-style cameras are equipped with large-format sensors and advanced technologies like Dual Native ISO and V-Log, borrowed from Panasonic’s cinema-grade cameras. The AW-UB50 offers 24.2M effective pixels, while the AW-UB10 features a 10.3M effective pixel sensor, ensuring high-quality video production in various settings, from live entertainment to corporate presentations. These cameras will also receive future software updates to incorporate advanced AI tracking and automatic framing features, further enhancing their versatility.

In tandem with these new cameras, Panasonic is extending NDI support to models like the AW-UE40, AW-UE50, AW-HE145, and AW-UE150, along with the AG-CX350 Memory Card Camera Recorder. NDI will allow users to integrate Panasonic’s cameras into IP-based production workflows, offering simplified setup and control through Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). The updates, available via free firmware between December 2024 and April 2025, will expand accessibility to IP video production, allowing for more efficient and scalable content creation across industries.

Panasonic PTZ Cameras Enable Professional Cyclists And Athletes To Improve Performance https://news.broadfield.com/panasonic-ptz-cameras-enable-professional-cyclists-and-athletes-to-improve-performance/ Wed, 25 Oct 2023 20:00:00 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=26758 Panasonic’s AW-UE150 and AW-UE100 PTZ cameras have emerged as the chosen solutions for a pioneering project undertaken by the research team at Ghent University-imec in Belgium. This innovative endeavor seeks to enhance the analysis and performance evaluation of athletes by leveraging cutting-edge video capture technology. The project’s successful implementation demonstrates the pivotal role that Panasonic’s advanced PTZ cameras play in automating and optimizing the capture of high-speed athletic performances.

The conventional process of recording and analyzing athletes’ performances often presents challenges for coaches and sports researchers. It typically involves a lack of access to robust camera equipment, along with the need for additional manpower and specialized tools to create high-quality videos for in-depth analysis and training. Panasonic’s PTZ cameras, however, have revolutionized this approach, offering an automated and efficient means of capturing high-speed performance footage.

The selection of Panasonic’s UE150 and UE100 PTZ cameras for this project was informed by their remarkable adaptability and precision. These cameras excel in providing fine control, both horizontally and vertically, allowing for precise framing and tracking of athletic performances. The exceptional focal distance and zoom capabilities add further value, ensuring that even the most dynamic and high-speed actions can be captured with clarity and detail.

The UE100, in particular, boasts a direct drive motor that facilitates smooth pan and tilt movements, coupled with installation flexibility, low operational noise, and high-resolution image capture. These features make it an ideal choice for sports analysis, enabling coaches and researchers to produce high-quality videos for in-depth scrutiny. Furthermore, the UE100 supports a wide array of IP transmission protocols, adding to its versatility.

The UE150, a companion to the UE100, brings additional strengths to the table. It is equipped to deliver very high-quality video production, boasting impressive zoom capabilities and wide shooting angles. These qualities make it an invaluable addition to sports environments, particularly in large venues such as stadiums. Moreover, both of Panasonic’s PTZ cameras have the capability to seamlessly integrate with timing loop technology commonly used in track cycling. This integration allows sports coaches to automatically capture video footage of cyclists during their training and competitions, eliminating the need for a dedicated video operator.

In the words of Maarten Slembrouck, a postdoctoral researcher at IDLab, Ghent University, “Track cycling coaches tend to focus on what their athletes are doing ‘in the moment.’ They often lack the time to capture videos of performances during training or at competitions, which would enable the athletes to learn and improve. Using Panasonic PTZ cameras, we were able to automate framing and timing loops of track cyclists, while limiting the amount of work involved for the coaches and any technical staff.”

In summary, the adoption of Panasonic’s UE150 and UE100 PTZ cameras by Ghent University’s research team has opened up new horizons in sports performance analysis. These cameras, with their adaptability, precision, and integration capabilities, have revolutionized the way athletic performances are captured and analyzed, ultimately providing coaches and athletes with a powerful tool for improvement.

Panasonic PTZ Cameras Bring Fans Closer to Ed Sheeran’s Global Stadium Tour https://news.broadfield.com/panasonic-ptz-cameras-bring-fans-closer-to-ed-sheerans-global-stadium-tour/ Fri, 09 Dec 2022 19:23:00 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=23995 Ed Sheeran’s recent +-=¸´ Tour provided fans with the ultimate experience with the help of Panasonic’s PTZ cameras. The tour featured a 360-degree production set-up, surrounded by the crowd in each stadium, with Panasonic AW-UE150 PTZ cameras operated remotely to bring the audience closer to the action.

“With the in-the-round stage design, we couldn’t have anything to obscure the crowd’s view. A tour like this would typically use traditional cameras with operators but they would have been too intrusive and that wasn’t an option.”

Phil Mead, Colonel Tom Touring

Colonel Tom Touring is the video production company that supported the +-=¸´ Tour. Mead believes it’s the first time PTZ cameras have been used exclusively in a global stadium tour.

Colonel Tom Touring was told to look at Pansonic AW-UE150 PTZ Cameras. The AW-UE150 outputs up to UHD 4K 60p over a variety of 4K connections including 12G-SDI, HDMI, optical fiber, and IP streaming. It features a large 1″ type MOS sensor, a 20x optical zoom with a wide 75.1° angle-of-view, and PoE++ compatibility.

“We were immediately impressed by the incredible picture quality, the size of the cameras and their versatility. Another great benefit was the ability to use the crop function. It means that a single camera and operator, can achieve two shots – a full body shot and a close-up.”

Phil Mead, Colonel Tom Touring

12 AW-UE150 PTZ cameras paired with the Panasonic AW-RP150 Advanced Joystick Controller were used in the tour setup. Six on the masts that support the whole steel structure, four at each corner of the stage and two on the large screens above.

“Ed is an incredibly mobile performer, making up to 200 laps of the stage during a show. The cameras are constantly panning and tilting and exposed to vibration. Two are used on rails. Tracking and capturing that level of movement can be challenging but the cameras continue to perform as well as the day they first came out of the box.”

Phil Mead, Colonel Tom Touring

Alpha Video NDI success story https://news.broadfield.com/alpha-video-ndi-success-story/ Mon, 01 Nov 2021 15:43:00 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=20008 Minnesota-based Cargill develops products and services that advance nutrition, food safety, and sustainability, along with helping their partners innovate and manage risk. They have operations in 70 countries all around the world and 155,000 employees. In 2018 their 240-seat auditorium went under an audiovisual renovation. This auditorium holds an average of 300 events a year, so their key considerations were extremely important during the renovation.

Their requirements were for the room to be a flexible, multi-use room where multiple events could happen simultaneously, the needed to have the room easy enough to use so that employees could start and manage a video conferencing session by themselves, and they needed to increase the overall production values of every presentation and videoconference through updated technology. NDI was the answer.

“We wanted to get up-to-date as far as technology goes and have some future-proofing built-in”

Brandon Sheffield, Senior Live Event Consultant for Cargill.

With a tight timeline, they only had twelve weeks to accomplish all their goals. They also ran into challenges with the room itself. The room has to be a diverse, multi-use room that would be able to be split into several different configurations by themselves. The live events team would be to be able to flip the room to do a fully managed show quickly. This solution would be to have a projector and three cameras with monitories, audio speakers, microphones and a podium presentation control in each room.

NDI Technology allowed Cargill to create a flexible space. Alpha Video took charge and integrated nine Panasonic AW-UE150 4K PTZ cameras and a Gallery Sienna NDI router to connect a NewTek TriCaster  multi-camera production system. The TriCaster allowed the control room staff to do video playback and lower third graphics to enhance their productions.

Alpha Video also integrate two control rooms for independent production of simultaneous events and the ability to easily switch from any one of the nine cameras depending of the auditorium’s room configuration. Both control rooms had a TriCaster.

A Dante digital audio system was used to connect 12 Shure ULXD microphones along with laptop audio and audio conferencing inputs into a Yamaha QL5 and QL1 audio consoles for live mixing. Alpha Video also integrated a Crestron DM-MD64x64 control system.

Alpha Video was able to help sucesfully acheive all of Cargill’s goals. The new auditorium is particularly effective when the rooms are easy enough to use by a single employee, allowing the live events team to focus on larger, more complex events.

“Everything is integrated now. Our production values have gone up tremendously,”

Brandon Sheffield, Senior Live Event Consultant for Cargill.
