IEBA Tech Thoughts on YouTube recently published an amazing video walk through of Panasonic’s LiveCTRL for iOS devices.

LiveCTRL makes the most of the broadcast-level video the Panasonic PTZ cameras deliver, in a simple, clean, and very easy-to-carry iPad interface.

Panasonic has released an iOS app to produce multi-camera live production on an iPad. Now, this isn’t an entirely new solution. It’s based upon the core components of Cinamaker (Figure 2, below), and you need a Cinamaker license to add additional sources to the app, but Panasonic LiveCTRL does what no other iOS-based solution

Teradek Blog: 5 Reasons to Try Out iOS Monitoring for Your Next Production https://news.broadfield.com/teradek-blog-5-reasons-to-try-out-ios-monitoring-for-your-next-production/ Mon, 11 Dec 2017 15:08:06 +0000 https://www.broadfield.com/news/?p=9218 From Teradek

4. Freedom of Wireless

Wired systems are at an impasse. While reliable and stable, traditional monitoring devices rely on long stretches of cables on set which means limited range and more stuff to trip over. On top of that, how many times has your crew needed to move on to the next set, only to have to spend time figuring out how to organize and transport tethered systems and heavy monitoring equipment?

Productions are moving quicker and crews are getting smaller these days. When you’re moving from shot to shot with short deadlines, the last thing you want to worry about is wasting time hauling around and positioning your equipment.

That’s why the Serv Pro simplifies this process on set. With up to 300 ft. of built-in WiFi range (extendable with Teradek Link or 3rd party WiFi routers), Serv Pro allows anyone on set to monitor while moving around freely. In addition, since most of the crew would have their own monitors, there’d be no need for looking over camera ops’ or focus puller’s shoulder, giving them the space to freedom to focus on their roles without interfering with other people.

5. Keep Clients At Bay

Cinematographers know this all too well: you’re trying to focus on directing the project but clients are breathing down your neck, taking up precious video village space, following you around, asking nonstop questions. If there’s one thing users of Serv Pro have enjoyed, it’s telling clients to download VUER on their own iPhones or iPads and keeping them happily far from set.

Since Serv Pro allows up to 10 iOS devices to connect simultaneously, most productions could spare a connection for clients to pop in and monitor. In addition, thanks to WiFi Assist on iOS 9 and newer, iPhones and iPads connected to WiFi networks without Internet will continue to use cellular, meaning clients can switch between seeing the feed and checking their emails.

Conclusion

One thing should be made clear though: iOS monitoring isn’t designed as an alternative to traditional wired and/or wireless monitoring systems since seeing a zero-delay feed is critical for DPs on set. However, Serv Pro offers benefits unparalleled by traditional systems like portability and low-cost, making it extremely versatile for all levels of productions….

Teradek today announced a series of new products that greatly simplify and enhance the iOS monitoring workflow for cinematographers. From app to access point, Teradek’s LinkVUER app, and Serv products rethink the on set monitoring workflow and introduce a unified solution.

iOS Monitoring for the Entire Crew

The Serv platform brings high definition real-time video monitoring to iPhones and iPads over WiFi. At just 4 frames of delay, every critical member of your crew can view what is being shot without crowding around video village or requiring a heavy director’s monitor kit.

Serv and Serv Pro can be mounted on-camera or at video village and offer up to 300ft of range using their built-in WiFi access points or much further distances when connected to a WiFi access point.

The HDMI only Serv model supports up to 4 iOS devices at one time, while the dual input Serv Pro can stream to more than 10 iOS devices in high definition.

Turning an iPad into a Director’s Monitor

To get the most out of Serv, Teradek developed VUER, a free iOS application that gives users unprecedented insight into their live video feeds. With a built-in histogram, false colour, focus peaking, waveform monitor and vectorscope, digging into the details of your video feeds has never been easier. Also included with the app is a frame grab and compare tool, anamorphic de-squeeze, integration with Pomfort LiveGrade (LUTs), and much more.

For multi-camera productions, the Teradek VUER app can support up to 4 live video feeds from any combination of Serv and Cube devices. Each feed maintains the same 4 frame latency and allows independent use of VUER’s toolset, giving you fine control over the information displayed on each feed.

A WiFi Access Point for the Video World

To connect Serv and VUER with maximum range and reliability, Teradek designed Link, the world’s first high performance 802.11ac WiFi access point built for the video industry. Housed in an aluminium chassis with a variety of clever mounting options, Link fits seamlessly onto DIT carts, light stands, and just about anywhere on set.

With a range of up to 1,000 feet, Link offers plenty of room for users to operate on both the 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz bands with Teradek encoders, mobile phones, and personal laptops.

To keep the system powered in more remote areas, Teradek has included either a V-mount or Gold-mount battery adapter.Yet, Link is more than just a simple WiFi access point, it’s also a bonded network router. By aggregating bandwidth from Ethernet and several 3G/4G/LTE modems, Link allows you to access the Internet from even the most remote locations at reliable connection speeds.

Perfect for getting content back to the studio or to a client as soon as a shoot wraps, Link’s bonding capability is the first of its kind for productions on the move.
