In the age of streaming platforms dominating the market, live events have emerged as a crucial factor preventing consumers from completely abandoning traditional cable services. While cable has largely taken a back seat in the streaming era, live events remain a stronghold, and streaming services are capitalizing on this trend.

Major streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Max, and Hulu, are increasingly incorporating live events into their offerings. These events range from sports to award ceremonies, mirroring the traditional TV model where significant moments draw large audiences and cultural relevance. The blog identifies four key opportunities that live events provide for both businesses and users:

  1. Advertising Revenue: Live events generate substantial advertising revenue by attracting large audiences at scheduled times. This mimics the successful business model of traditional TV, where income is tied directly to consumption. The combination of subscription fees and advertising revenue offers a dual stream that contributes to the profitability of streaming platforms.
  2. Pay-Per-View Events: Pay-per-view (PPV) serves as an effective monetization avenue beyond ads and subscriptions. Examples include sports events, esports tournaments, and special programming on platforms like Amazon Prime Video. PPV provides a predictable revenue model with the flexibility to price content based on its perceived value, potentially resulting in significant revenue generation.
  3. Live E-Commerce: Livestream shopping, a successful model in countries like China, has the potential to thrive in the U.S. as well. The interactive nature of livestream shopping, with features like Q&As and live chats, not only generates revenue but also helps build hype, engage viewers, and establish relationships with consumers. Live commerce can be integrated into various live events, offering opportunities for users to make purchases related to the content they are watching.
  4. Interactive Community Features: Streaming platforms aim to bring users closer to the content they are watching through real-time interaction. Features such as community chats, real-time analytics dashboards, and interactive reactions enhance the immersive experience. The metaverse is presented as an example of the future potential for interactive, immersive live events, citing Ariana Grande’s virtual concert hosted on Fortnite as a case with 78 million attendees.

In summary, the post highlights how streaming platforms are redefining audience engagement by combining the strengths of traditional television with the interactive capabilities of the digital world. The adoption of a multifaceted approach to live events, encompassing advertising, PPV, e-commerce, and interactive features, not only generates substantial income for businesses but also fosters real-time connection and engagement for users. As the streaming landscape evolves, live events are positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital entertainment, offering immersive and interactive experiences for global audiences.

Why Live Streaming Is Vital for Theater’s Second Act https://news.broadfield.com/why-live-streaming-is-vital-for-theaters-second-act/ Tue, 14 Dec 2021 21:50:00 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=20611

“Far from disappearing when live performances started to come back, live streaming did the one thing everyone wanted it to do—it got better.”

Julian Mitchell

Julian Mitchell recently wrote a blog on The Beat covering how live streaming is vital for live performances. Since the pandemic, theatres took a huge loss, but live streaming has kept them afloat and will continue to get better and help live performances share their talent.

A great example of a theatre using live streaming is the Apollo Theatre in New York. The Apollo added a new virtual stage that creates a live streaming space for this venue. They use their virtual stage to host multiple events.

“Branching out into the digital space has allowed us to bring Apollo programming much farther outside of our reach for in-person programming, and reach new potential audiences.”

Kamilah Forbes, Apollo Theatre Executive Producer

Another example is the National Theatre in London. They created “NT at Home” which branched of their “NT Live” platform that was pre-pandemic. NT Live was a way to broadcast their plays in cinemas. NT at Home allowed sixteen million people to watch their content during the lockdown. The continue to promote plays for NT at Home.

If you are looking to start your streaming journey, Mitchell suggests Switchers like the YoloBox Pro and Roland V-02HD MK II if you want any kind of multi-camera production.

The company participates each year in providing powerhouse presentations for the 3-day Passion Conference for collegiate ministry, which this year gathered 32,000 attendees in 3 venues, two arenas in Atlanta, GA and a theater in Washington, D.C. This year ProPresenter used NewTek NDI® to provide video-over-IP, complete with alpha channel support, to the screen control system.

“The machine they used for screen control didn’t have the necessary number of inputs to handle a separate key/fill, and they were investigating buying more video cards to ingest our lyric feed. Instead, we decided to use NDI and it worked flawlessly, saving both time and money for new expenditures.” – Brad Weston of Renewed Vision.

Palo Alto, CA, December 15, 2016 – Epiphan Video, a leader in professional audiovisual capture, recording, and streaming products, announces the launch of Epiphan Pearl-2 Rackmount™ and Epiphan Pearl-2 Rackmount Twin™. These all-in-one live video encoders are the newest versions of Pearl-2™, now ready for installation in an AV rack.

Pearl-2 introduced many great new features, and we’ve heard from lots of people excited to use these features in their AV racks as well as on their desktops.

Pearl-2 Rackmount is a powerful 2U live production video mixer that fits perfectly into your 19-inch AV rack. Pearl-2 Rackmount Twin doubles the power of the single rackmount by putting two systems in the same chassis. The density of the twin system saves space in a crowded rack, and is perfect for situations when you want to have one system recording ISOs while the other does live production.

Dave Kirk, Vice President of Product Marketing with Epiphan Video, talks about the two new platforms: “We always intended to have Pearl-2 echo the three-model product line that was so popular on Pearl. And since the launch of Pearl-2 earlier this year was so successful, we made sure that the two other models came sooner rather than later. Pearl-2 introduced many great new features, and we’ve heard from lots of people excited to use these features in their AV racks as well as on their desktops.”

The Pearl-2 Rackmount models, like Pearl-2 itself, can capture, stream and record multiple video sources simultaneously. Both models have the same inputs and outputs as the Pearl-2 portable model, and the same access to the 4K feature add-on. “Pearl-2 fulfilled a lot of customer needs, like USB 3.0, XLR audio inputs, 12-G SDI inputs and 4K HDMI output ports, and these upgrades are just as necessary on a rack as on a desktop,” says Kirk.

You can come see them in person at the ISE show in Amsterdam on February 7th, giving attendees a chance to come see it in action and meet with the Epiphan team.
