It’s a big week for RAW, and it has now been confirmed that Apple ProRes RAW will be supported by Adobe Premiere Pro CC, joining Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer and Edius (as of IBC 2019) as an industry wide standard. This news will be a relief for video producers and editors that have needed to switch editing platforms to be able to work with ProRes RAW.

Adobe will be working on the integration of ProRes RAW into Premiere Pro CC, rather than using a plug in, like it is the case with Premiere support of Blackmagic RAW. There is no indication yet as to when the update from Premiere supporting ProRes RAW will become available though. We also don’t know yet whether only Premiere Pro CC on the Mac or also Windows will be supported.

For Atomos device owners, this is fantastic news, as Jeromy Young (CEO, Atomos) says;

This is a great day for creatives, a standard RAW video format is what we need to enable computer processing for creativity and we are proud to see ProRes RAW supported natively in Premiere Pro CC, Final Cut Pro X and Media Composer.

There are lots of ongoing discussions between manufacturers surrounding whether RAW can be outputted from specific cameras. We have since found out that the Nikon Z6/Z7 and Panasonic S1H will be able to, will Canon’s and Sony’s future offerings follow suit too and allow RAW output?

Adobe Premiere Pro CC is getting AI-powered Color Correction and Native 4K and 8K support.

That’s right. Premiere Pro CC will now be able to automatically color correct clipsbased on a central reference image. If you notice that the colors of your clips vary in post, Adobe’s AI Sensei can adjust the clips’ colors and light values so they will look consistent relative to each other.

Check out the new Immersive Video effects in After Effects and Premiere Pro CC 2018 in this tutorial. Including free 360 footage!

Adobe has been committed to offering content creators more options when it comes to editing 360 video and VR content. Adobe backed up that commitment this year by acquiring the SkyBox 360/VR plug-ins from Mettle. The SkyBox plug-ins are a staple for many 360 content creators working in After Effects and Premiere Pro. Adobe recently integrated the 360/VR effects into After Effects and Premiere Pro CC 2018, and the effects have been relabeled under what is now called “Immersive Video.” In this tutorial, we are going to explore the basics of these new Immersive Video effects for 360/VR footage.

You can quickly toggle all of the 360/VR Immersive Video effects in After Effects and Premiere Pro by simply searching “VR” in the effects list. All of the 360 effects have “VR” in the name, so this makes them easy to identify. The process of switching from one NLE to another is not often an easy one. All that muscle memory needs to be re-learned, the tool set is different and in some cases even the conceptual paradigm on which the software operates!

But if you’ve learned one video editing application and you’re feeling an itch to make the switch to another NLE, then this post should help you make that jump…

If you’re new to editing and wondering which application to try first, well that’s a different conversation, for a different time. But I’ll give you my two cents:

• If you want to work in features and broadcast TV – learn Avid Media Composer first.
• Editing your own videos and price is your main consideration? – Learn DaVinci Resolve, it’s free!
• Don’t want to pay a monthly subscription fee? – Learn FCPX or Resolve.
• Coming from FCP7 (still!) and looking for an easy leap – Learn Premiere Pro
