Prism Rack is an ultra flexible H.264/HEVC solution for enterprise, broadcast, Live Production, and Public Safety applications. With room for up to nine codec cards in a 2U chassis (up to three codec cards in 1U chassis), Prism can encode or decode up to 4Kp60 video with stunning 10-bit 4:2:2 image fidelity. Prism Rack cards can be both an encoder or decoder through a software switch and the encoder side supports the decode license expanding density.

Cornell’s search for a robust video feed solution led him to Teradek’s Prism Mobile and Core Cloud Platform. This technology, typically used in the film industry, provided Lafayette’s police force with real-time, high-quality video streams from drones and helicopters. The devices are easy to install, work seamlessly with helicopters and drones, and provide critical video streams via 5G connections. As a result, this system allowed authorities to collaborate more effectively across different jurisdictions, leading to the creation of the East Bay Interagency Video Network.

The implementation of Teradek’s technology had immediate success, such as aiding in the rescue of an injured kite surfer in San Francisco Bay. The real-time video feed gave rescue teams, including the Coast Guard and local fire departments, a clear view of the incident, drastically improving response coordination. This breakthrough has allowed Bay Area public safety agencies to share live video feeds securely, fostering collaboration and enhancing situational awareness. The new system allows different agencies to view the same information simultaneously, promoting cooperation and ensuring the best possible outcomes during emergencies.

To address this challenge, BC Live leveraged Teradek’s Prism Flex encoders and Core orchestration platform. Prism Flex encoders were placed at each stage’s control room, transmitting feeds seamlessly across diverse locations for monitoring, including local production offices, artist trailers and private event spaces, LED towers around the festival grounds, and off-site monitoring locations. All Prism Flex devices were managed using Core’s on-premise Hyperion server, optimizing bandwidth by keeping everything local and ensuring high-quality streaming.

Core Workspaces were set up with security measures, allowing specific individuals to monitor artists’ performances from local production offices. User-friendly AppleTV4K decoders running the Core Share app were placed at each production station, enabling viewers to easily select which stage to monitor. BC Live also created a custom multiview of all stages and local weather stats, adding it to the Core Workspace using an additional Prism Flex encoder.

For private spaces like the artists’ area, BC Live utilized SRT with a multi-channel decoder, enabling a local technician to switch between stages on multiple screens while feeding the corresponding audio mix into the PA system. LED tower displays strategically positioned across the festival grounds received point-to-point transmissions via Prism Flex decoders, showcasing ads, on-stage feeds, and important messages for festival-goers.

By centralizing all devices on a single VLAN and orchestrating management through an on-premise Core Hyperion server, BC Live optimized infrastructure, requiring minimal internet bandwidth and maintaining the festival’s ISP requirements at a low and budget-friendly level. Hunter Britanisky, Technical Producer at BC Live, praised the Prism and Core solutions as the “Goldilocks solution” to their technical demands, enabling them to transmit all Program feeds with low latency and minimal bandwidth while having remote management through Core.

In conclusion, BC Live Productions successfully delivered an efficient and top-tier production experience at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, instilling confidence among show technicians and allowing everyone to concentrate on the captivating performances unfolding on stage, thanks to the seamless integration of Teradek’s Prism and Core solutions.
