Ryan Salazar, the founder of Broadcast Beat and Executive Producer of NAB Show LIVE, explained how this year’s show is going to be different from years past. This year they will be using 6 LiveU LU600s, and 2 LiveU LU800s to carry several other live camera feeds throughout the venue.

The LiveU LU2000–SMPTE 2110 Bonded Video Decoders are essential for decoding all of the LiveU signals and making them compliant with SMPTE 2110. This is important because SMPTE 2110 is a standard for professional media over managed IP networks, providing a common framework for video, audio, and metadata.

The LiveU LU600 is a powerful bonded cellular system that is ideal for newsgathering, live sports, and events coverage. Its compact size and four-hour battery make it easy to use in the field, while its HEVC video card provides high-quality video with reduced bandwidth usage. This is particularly important when transmitting video over cellular networks, which can be prone to congestion and network instability.

The LiveU LU800 production field units are also impressive, with the ability to handle four simultaneous video feeds and operate on 5G cellular networks. This is particularly useful for covering events like the NAB Show, where multiple cameras are capturing content from different angles. Having a second unit for redundancy purposes is also a smart move, as it ensures that the broadcast can continue uninterrupted even if one unit fails.

With NDI^® as the single interconnected production environment and TriCaster managing and controlling the range of production equipment, together the technology formed the perfect solution to help Cranfield University deliver professional-looking live, online broadcasts for students.  

When scoping the studio-build, we ran with the vision to live-stream to the whole campus, and looked around for technology to enable this. NDI technology was the obvious contender due to its cost-effectiveness from multiple campus locations, as well as its ease of use.
