epiphan video has released a great example of how a church uses their webcaster x1!

See how Bridgeway Church uses Webcaster X1 to broadcast their Sunday services live to Facebook.

Simple, easy-to-use Facebook Live Streaming for Worship

See how Bridgeway Church uses Webcaster X1 to broadcast their Sunday services live to Facebook.

Bridgeway Church is a non-denominational worship centre in Greenville, South Carolina. In 2016 they began a journey towards live streaming Sunday worship services to their congregation of 1000+ members. Their goal was to provide something inclusive for members who couldn’t join in person due to travel or sickness.

Getting started with live streaming

For the first six months, Bridgeway used a paid CDN service for live streaming. Soon after, their Pastor of Development, David Sisson, and his colleagues wanted to also take advantage of the newly available YouTube Live and Facebook Live services. They started by adding a YouTube RTMP stream to their streaming software. Although this process worked well, they wanted a simpler solution for streaming to Facebook. Specifically, with so many other moving parts involved in their live broadcasts, they wanted something they could just plug in and start streaming on without the need to manage more cumbersome RTMP stream keys.

Live streaming to Facebook, the easy way

The Bridgeway team searched Google and B&H Photo for encoders that work with Facebook and found Webcaster X1 for Facebook Live. Now, with a simple HDMI video feed to Webcaster X1, viewers on Facebook get the full benefit of the professional AV stream. The Facebook Live stream automatically gets the same live, multi-camera production that their software is streaming out to YouTube.

What does the end-to-end solution look like?

Bridgeway’s live streaming production solution uses video feeds from multiple cameras and an audio feed coming in from their mixing panel. They use Livestream Studio software to produce and switch their show and stream to YouTube. Using a BlackMagic Decklink Quad in their studio computer, Bridgeway outputs their video stream over SDI, then converts this signal to HDMI before connecting it to Webcaster X1 for Facebook Live.

After completing the simple one-time authentication to pair Webcaster X1 with their Facebook account and choosing their Facebook page as the streaming destination, the Bridgeway Church broadcast team finds that week to week there is very little set up to do: the live stream to Facebook just works.

Every Sunday before the 9:00 am and 11:00 am services, the broadcast team uses a monitor, keyboard, and mouse connected to Webcaster X1 to set the description for the day’s live stream. When configuration is complete, they simply click start when it’s time to go live.

The result?

Bridgeway Church is consistently reaching more than 100 live viewers each week, and even more who watch the video live on demand after the service.

Their initial goal was to service their local congregation, and this has been a huge success, as evidenced by comments from the congregates both online and in person with pastors at the church. Church members are pleased they can watch and join in the service while they are on vacation or have sick children at home.

The live stream also brings joy to those not in the South Carolina area. Some remote viewers watch to see family members who may be serving that week, while others simply find peace and harmony with the messages shared by the Bridgeway pastoral team. As an added benefit, Bridgeway Church has also found that the live streams bring their worship to viewers as far away as Peru, Nigeria, Taiwan, Germany, and Switzerland.

All’s well that streams well

For Bridgeway Church, Facebook is a valuable platform for live video distribution and it does a great job of advertising live feeds to members who like the church’s page. Webcaster X1 made adding this stream very simple and keeps the broadcast team focused on producing a great remote experience rather than worrying about whether the live stream is working.

What a show! We’re happy to report that the Epiphan booth was bustling with activity on November 9th and 10th at the InfoComm Connections show in New York (known as ICC NY 2016), with many attendees eager to see our latest Pro-AV products in action.

Aimed at tech managers and in-house AV professionals, ICC NY 2016 (co-located with NAB Show NY) is designed to bridge the gap between AV enthusiasts and industry leaders in a condensed two-day version of the annual, and significantly larger, InfoComm show.

Throughout this two-day event, our Epiphan booth drew a constant stream of visitors who came from all kinds of different Pro-AV backgrounds. Some were looking for broadcasting solutions in the education field, others for streaming live events, while others had more of an interest in sports, business conferencing and more. The specialties were diverse among booth visitors, but no matter the use case, our versatile and powerful Epiphan products proved they could not only meet but exceed expectations when it came to capturing, encoding, streaming and recording.

On display, we had the following products available for demo:

Pearl-2

Pearl-2 is our next-generation “all-in-one” live production switcher. Released in September, this portable device is packed with nifty features like custom layouts, live switching and 4K encoding. Users can simultaneously capture, encode, stream and record up to 6 HD channels or a single 4K channel for their audience. Perfect for live event production.

LUMiO 12x

Ideal for live event capture, LUMiO 12xis a flexible PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera that captures in resolutions up to Full HD (1080p). Perfect for pairing with Pearl-2 for a full live production solution right out of the box.

What visitors thought:

If there was a single Epiphan product favorite, it was Pearl-2. With its “all-in-one” capabilities and portable form factor, Pearl-2 stole the show and received loads of attention from booth visitors. Many people were intrigued with the product at first glance and became further interested as I began to explain the concept and demonstrate its features. Throughout the explanation, visitors gradually became aware of the possibilities Pearl-2 could bring to their own specific Pro-AV use case and were eager to learn more.

Visitors often compared Pearl-2 to other streaming/recording products, remarking that Pearl-2 was far more versatile and simple to use compared to similar products on the market. I even had several people ask me to repeat my demonstration a second time while filming on their smartphones so they could relay all of Pearl-2’s details to their managers with as much accuracy as possible.

AV.io family of portable video grabbers

Consisting of AV.io HD, AV.io SDI and the newly-added AV.io 4K, these products capture video signals in resolutions up to UHD (i.e. 4K). Best of all, AV.io grabbers are completely driverless, requiring no configuration on behalf of the user.

What visitors thought:

Visitors were impressed with the simplicity offered by AV.io video grabbers and many commented on the rugged exterior product casing. One visitor dropped by the Epiphan booth to and express her satisfaction with an AV.io HD she purchased several months earlier. This particular visitor also extended thanks to the Epiphan Support team for helping her out when she had questions about the product, describing the encounter as “the most courteous and helpful product support she’s had in the industry.” This isn’t an exaggeration on my part—she actually said that. Always nice to hear!

Webcaster X1 family of social media streaming devices

Developed in collaboration with industry leaders Facebook and YouTube, Epiphan Webcaster X1 for Facebook Live and Epiphan Webcaster X1 for YouTube products are designed to simplify the social media streaming process. Simply connect an HD source, enter a unique device code and the stream is live on either Facebook or YouTube, depending on the product model.

What visitors thought:

Our newest product line, Webcaster X1 generated notable interest throughout the show. Several attendees approached me to mention that they heard about Webcaster X1 in one of our recent customer newsletters and were eager to learn more about the product. During my brief product demo, many commented with interest that they hadn’t seen a product like this before and were excited with the relatively low price point of $300. I even had a few different Pro AV followers inform me that they were impressed with the new concept of a simple-to-use social media streaming device and that, in their professional opinion, Epiphan is “nailing it” with Webcaster X1.

Overall, the Epiphan booth was a busy place at ICC NY 2016! So busy in fact, that by the end of the show our large stack of Pearl-2 brochures and our 150+ “freebie” USB keys (each containing all of our Epiphan product literature) were completely gone. Thank you to all who stopped by our booth, we had a great time chatting with everyone! See you next year at ICC 2017!

Epiphan’s new Webcaster X1: Stream to social media platforms with ease

This past week was big for us at Epiphan! On Wednesday October 19, we added an exciting and innovative new product family to the Epiphan line-up—the new Webcaster X1 line of social media streaming devices.

Webcaster X1™ products are exciting because they fully integrate into the live streaming process for social networks, helping content creators streamline and simplify the delivery of live professional-quality video streams to viewers.

More specifically, Webcaster X1 products are small, easy-to-use devices that encode and stream HD sources (i.e. HDMI™ cameras, mixers) directly to YouTube or Facebook Live, depending on the product model.

There’s no special software to install either—simply connect the Webcaster X1 device to your network via Ethernet, connect your source and then pair the device with either Facebook or YouTube (again—depending on the model) using a special device code to begin live streaming. It’s that simple.

Developed in collaboration with live streaming industry leaders YouTube and Facebook, the Webcaster X1 family consists of two distinct products, unique to each streaming platform:

1.Epiphan Webcaster X1 for YouTube™ and
2.Epiphan Webcaster X1 for Facebook Live™.

Webcaster X1 for YouTube

With Webcaster X1 for YouTube, you initiate the stream by entering the generated code (displayed on the front of the Webcaster X1) using a computer or mobile device and then manage the details of your live stream through YouTube’s Live Dashboard. When the stream is ended by pressing the “On/Off” switch on the back of the device, YouTube automatically transcodes your video and saves it as a regular (i.e. non-live) video on your YouTube channel for your subscribers to view at a later time.  [Continue Reading…]
