Debuting at NAB 2019, the Teradek Ace 500 in an affordable zero-delay wireless video system for budget-conscious videographers. Will be available mid-June starting at $999.

Teradek announce at NAB 2019 the Bolt 4K, the first 4K HDR wireless video system providing uncompressed, zero-latency transmission,  a product that will be available next Summer. The revolutionary Bolt 4K system defines, says the company, “a whole new category of wireless video systems. The groundbreaking technology, found exclusively inside Bolt 4K, offers 8x the reliability of previous HD models, 1.5x more range, and superior image quality.”

Now, the Teradek Ace is also a zero-delay wireless video system, but it’s designed to all those who do not need 4K and will live well with a system that delivers uncompressed 1080p60 video at up to 500 ft. with zero delay. Built, says the company, with the same reliable wireless technology found in the industry-standard Bolt product line, the Ace 500 offers an ultralight, streamlined experience at a more accessible price point.

Use it with a SmallHD monitor

“Ace 500 was designed for independent creatives beginning to incorporate wireless video into their workflows, or for those operating within strict budgets who still need a reliable video link,” explained Greg Smokler, VP Products for Teradek.

Ideal for budget-conscious videographers, the Teradek Ace 500 can be paired with different monitors. Teradek suggests users can pair the Ace with SmallHD FOCUS monitors for an all-in-one handheld wireless monitoring solution. Ace transmitters can be paired with FOCUS RX, while Ace receivers can be paired with a FOCUS TX.

A versatile Teradek solution

Ace 500 transmits uncompressed 1080p60 video up to 500ft. line-of-sight with less than 1ms delay. The units feature HDMI input/output and can be powered via the 3.5mm barrel input using either a PTap/2pin power source or one of several battery plate accessories available.

What makes Ace 500 more versatile than the competition is its compatibility with Teradek’s Bolt ecosystem, allowing users to transmit and receive video from any Bolt 500 or SmallHD FOCUS 500 transmitter/receiver. Ace is also unique due to its compact and lightweight form factor. The transmitter weighs just 126g while the receiver weighs 146g, making them perfect for gimbals and camera rigs of any size.

The Teradek Ace 500 will be available mid-June and a transmitter/receiver set will retail for $999.00.

The 703 Bolt is a 3000 nit, Full HD, 7-inch monitor with a 300-foot wireless receiver built-in (compatible with Teradek Bolt 500, 1000 and 3000 transmitters).

SmallHD started 2018 with a new product, the 703 Bolt, a daylight viewable monitor developed in cooperation with Teradek, so you don’t need to use cables to get it to work.

SmallHD and Teradek have joined forces to create a wireless monitoring device that’s easy to see, easy to power and easy hold. No cables. No fuss. Easily pair the 703 Bolt with Teradek 500, 1000, and 3000 transmitters and you’re good to go.

The new 703 Bolt expands the 700 family of monitors from SmallHD, made of four different models: 701 and 702 Lite and the 702 OLED and 702 Bright. Teradek’s new Bolt 500 provides productions with 500ft of zero delay, HD wireless transmission in a smaller form factor than ever before.

Teradek’s Bolt nomenclature is agreeably direct: the Bolt 3000 has a range of 3000ft, the Bolt 300 has a range of 300: you get the picture.

The Bolt 500 opens up flexibility at the lower end of range needs, providing a 500ft (152m) visually lossless, AES-128 encrypted signal for $2990 and, more importantly for anyone using it on a production, no delay.

What’s more, it’s 20% smaller than the Bolt 300 and lighter too, weighing in at 217g and contained in a 24 x 66 x 102mm chassis, all of which should help it integrate into most camera rigs with minimal impact.

Two new DFS channels will help it operate interference-free more often in the USA and Europe, while reconnect times during a dropped link are now instantaneous once the operator moves back into range. Supported resolution ranges up to 1080p60.

Teradek also claims that its new software provides the most robust wireless link the company has ever created, while a built-in HDMI to SDI converter allows the user to connect both an on-camera monitor and video source via the same device.

Elsewhere the new 500 also includes metadata and timecode support, 3D LUTs, dual inputs/outputs, is multicast capable, and comes with the company’s multifunctional USB 3.0 GRAB Engine.

Availability is immediate and, if you want to know where it fits in the range, below it resides the shorter range Bolt 300 ($1990) while the next choice upstream is the Bolt 1000 at $5490. In other words it plugs a rather decent gap.
