Getting started with NDI for Zoom Rooms https://news.broadfield.com/getting-started-with-ndi-for-zoom-rooms/ Thu, 15 Jul 2021 18:00:00 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=19155 If you are a Zoom Rooms user and am looking to enhance your webinars and virtual meetings, then Zooms’ annoucnment is for you. Video producers can now use Network Device Interface (NDI) with Zoom Rooms to create custom visual experiences from individual video streams. In Zoom’s recent article they help users get started with NDI for Zoom Rooms. Here’s what they say.

First make sure you have all the Prerequisites. That includes:

  • Account owner, admin, or role with edit access to Zoom Rooms
  • Zoom Rooms Windows or Zoom Rooms Mac version 5.7.0 or higher
  • Zoom Rooms Controller version 5.7.0 or higher
  • NDI setup
  • Video production tool that supports NDI

Next, enable NDI for Zoom Rooms. Zoom’s instructions are

  1. Log in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. Click on Room Management then click on Zoom Rooms.
  3. You can use the Zoom Rooms location hierarchy to enable NDI from the account, location, or room settings. For this example, click Account Settings.
  4. Click the Meeting tab and scroll down to Allow Network Device Interface (NDI®️) usage, then toggle the setting.

Then you can use NDI during a meeting or webinar. Zoom says to follow these steps after you have configured your network for NDI and set up your third-party video tools.

  1. Start or join a meeting or webinar using Zoom Rooms.
  2. On the Zoom Rooms controller, tap Change View.
  3. Tap Add Output under the Live on NDI® section.
  4. Tap Active Speaker, a specific screen share, or the participant’s video you want to output.
  5. A notification will be displayed to all meeting or webinar participants informing them that the session is being streamed to NDI. The host must tap the Zoom Rooms controller to continue the session once this notification appears. Participants will have the option to stay in the session or leave.
  6. Use your third party video production tools to customize the video streams and export them to secondary meetings, recordings, or live streams.

Streamgeeks Guide to Connecting NDI and Zoom https://news.broadfield.com/streamgeeks-guide-to-connecting-ndi-and-zoom/ Mon, 22 Jun 2020 14:58:21 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=15786 NDI and Zoom are a great combination for your remote streaming workflow, or to bring a guest into your live stream. This method will allow you to bring NDI feeds directly into your conference call from your guest, or from your own production system.

Check out this video from StreamGeeks to learn more.

In this video tutorial and blog post, you will learn how to connect Zoom with NDI. NDI is an IP video standard used by many video production professionals. Zoom is of course, the popular online video communication solution. By connecting these two solutions together you can create some very interesting and powerful online communication systems. Connecting NDI and Zoom bridges the gap between professional video production solutions and consumer video conferencing.

How to connect NDI with Zoom

First of all you may want to read up on a few of our past blog posts to get up to speed. We recently published a video tutorial explaining how to connect OBS with Zoom and how to connect vMix with Zoom. OBS, vMix, and many other video production solutions including Wirecast, xSplit, eCamm Live, and MimoLive all support NDI and virtual camera outputs. With a virtual camera output, software video production solutions can bring a bunch of awesome features into your Zoom experience. At the StreamGeeks, you may have noticed that we capture our Zoom video conferencing sessions inside of our live streams. This allows us to live stream our Zoom video conferences to multiple CDN destinations such as Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Here are just a couple reasons why you would want to connect Zoom with a video production software:

  1. Higher quality video recordings
  2. Higher quality video inside of Zoom (Color Correction tools and other video enhancements)
  3. Higher quality audio inside of Zoom (VST 3 plugins and other audio enhancements)

How to host a Virtual Graduation with Wirecast, Zoom and NewBlue Titler Live https://news.broadfield.com/how-to-host-a-virtual-graduation-with-wirecast-zoom-and-newblue-titler-live/ Thu, 21 May 2020 20:51:00 +0000 https://news.broadfield.com/?p=15561 With education taking place mostly at home during the pandemic, many high schools, colleges and grad schools have had to turn to performing graduation ceremonies- remotely. Telestream WireCast and NewBlue Titler Live luckily have the gear educational facilities need to perform these ceremonies.

Check out some highlights from this article from the Telestream blog to learn more.

Graduations are a time for families and schools to come together and celebrate the achievements of their students. This year, although many schools may not be able to hold on-site graduation ceremonies, that doesn’t mean you have to skip the celebration.

Here’s how schools can use  Wirecast  and  Zoom  to live stream a virtual graduation ceremony that will let students come together, and let families enjoy the celebration.

Overview:

This solution uses 3 technologies to bring your graduates together, stream the ceremony, and to display the name and photo of each student as their degree is conferred.

Zoom is a remote video conference software used to host meetings and webinars. Many schools and colleges are already using Zoom software to meet with their students for instruction. Here, you will use Zoom to bring in the live video of all your graduates and faculty, allow for speakers to give commencements live, and to confer degrees to all the graduates.

Wirecast is live streaming production software. The benefit of Wirecast is it allows you capture all the action in Zoom, plus add additional touches – like displaying a photo of each graduate when they accept their degree – and it can live stream the whole ceremony to YouTube, Facebook, or any other live streaming platform, so that family from all over the world can watch the ceremony live.

NewBlue Titler Live is an animated graphics and titling program that comes with Wirecast. You’ll use NewBlue Titler Live Present within Wirecast to display each graduate’s name and photo during the conferring of degrees.

How to Make a Virtual Graduation Ceremony Work

*This folder contains sample files to be used as a sample or starter file. For best results download the entire folder and it’s contents.

Just like a traditional graduation ceremony, there is a lot of work involved in getting a virtual graduation set up and ready. But here is a step-by-step tutorial to get you set up.

  1. Wirecast Pro running on a powerful computer. Download and purchase Wirecast on your streaming computer (be sure to see recommended tech specs). Ideally, the person running Wirecast should be hard-wired into the Internet and have sufficient upload bandwidth speed for live streaming. When you purchase Wirecast you’ll also get NewBlue Titler Live Present, which you’ll need to drive the display of graduate names/photos from your spreadsheet. * (NOTE: You can do this workflow with Wirecast Studio, but you need NewBlue Titler Live Present, which comes free when you buy Wirecast Pro. If you have Wirecast Studio, you can buy NBTL Present for $299, or you can upgrade to Wirecast Pro (and get Present), for $200.)
  2. Zoom meeting account:  TheZoom Pro plan should be sufficient. The Zoom Pro plan allows for 100 meeting participants. Depending on how many graduates and staff you have, you’ll probably need to also purchase either a 500 person or 1000 person addon.  The Pro plan gives you user management and admin control. You’ll need to download Zoom software on your computer. Also, you’ll need to direct all the graduates and participating faculty to download the Zoom app on their phones, tablets, or computers.
  3. An Excel spreadsheet (or CSV file) with the names of all your graduates. Ideally, you’ll also have pictures of each graduate that you can display when their name is read.
