Avid’s Latest Media Composer Includes New DNxUncompressed Format

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 26, 2018

Avid editors got a pre-IBC treat as Media Composer 2018.9 was released last week, on the eve of the show.
Notably, the new release introduces DNxUncompressed, a “visually lossless” DNx format with 32-bit float support for effects and color processing. This means you can pull 16-bit or higher-quality formats onto the timeline and maintain full quality through FX, color-correction, or media encoding.

Live Streaming a Fashion Show – With the Sling Studio

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 26, 2018

The team here are PTZOptics loves to get out of the office and live stream events. This week we were honored to be able to live stream the West Chester Fall Fashion Show and I thought it would be a great chance to test out the new “Entry-Level” video production gear from Sling Studio. I have to admit that I am spoiled when it comes to video production gear. I have access to the majority of live streaming technology available on the market, so for this blog post I am making an effort to step back and consider what a complete live streaming system starting at just $999 is capable of.

When People Start Getting Real: IRL Live Streaming

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 24, 2018

When writing this article, I was reminded of the first time I heard the MTV Real World title sequence. That show ushered in the wave unscripted reality television that was recorded and edited for our viewing pleasure. But In Real Life (or IRL) takes this unscripted approach to the next level. These content creators are live streaming their daily lives and adventures for global audiences, any time, from anywhere. Many of these streamers were born out of Twitch, originally creating channels focused on video and tabletop gaming. But when Pokémon GO exploded in 2016 and players like aDrive, started to implement outdoor live streaming to engage with fans they go on the hunt, the IRL streaming movement was born.

Review: NewTek Connect Spark Cuts the Cord for Wireless Video Transmission over NDI

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 20, 2018

The NewTek Connect Spark is a simple tool that does a whole heck of a lot. Not only will it transmit an HDMI or SDI signal wirelessly over existing network infrastructure to an NDI enabled switcher, but it will also loop record to an SD card or USB hard drive. Network Device Interface, or NDI, is an open standard that enables products to communicate, deliver and receive broadcast quality video with low latency and frame-accuracy for switching in a live production. What kind of video you transmit is up to you — the applications are near endless.

New Mirrorless Cameras Are Serious About 4K, with 10-Bit 4:2:2 Output (and HDR) via HDMI

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 20, 2018

As the arms race in mirrorless cameras heats up — led by Sony, which was an early proponent of the technology with its Alpha A7R and A7S cameras — the smaller, lighter DSLR alternatives are becoming more numerous and fully featured. That’s never been more apparent than it is right now, with new models from Fujifilm as well as mirrorless newcomers Canon and Nikon taking pains to appeal to video shooters as much as they do to still photographers
