Barbara Spicek, NewTek’s President and GM on Company’s Growth Surge

AV Technology’s Cindy Davis sat down with NewTek’s president and general manager, Barbara Spicek to talk about the company’s growth over the past few years. Barbara Spicek has been in the industry for nearly three deacdes and joined NewTek in 2020. With the challenge of the pandemic, Spicek helped NewTek overcome the challenges and helped the company’s growth of nearly 40 percent globally with no signs of slowing down.
NewTek has been able to provide the technology needs of professionals throughout the pandemic. When the need for live streaming equipment was in demand NewTek was able to provide to broadcasters of all levels.
“The need for professional broadcast and video production is everywhere. We have the classical markets like education fueled by the pandemic, with remote learning and remote teaching—so they grew tremendously as a customer base, as did houses of worship. All of a sudden we had to create remotely, so there was a big increase.”

“The great thing with NewTek is we’re not a broadcast company. We have products that go from the entry level—sub-10K level—to higher for whatever the business needs. We really cater to this broader mid-market and all segments these days.”

NewTek’s international engagement with their array of AV solutions was a part of their success. When Spicek came on she launched a complete new global channel program.
Out of the 39 percent growth—a huge part was international. That business has actually grown even faster than the US one. We also launched global support for the first time at the beginning of last year. We now have support infrastructure in Europe and APAC 24 hours, around the clock and all of these good things. And then we’ve obviously been adding partners across the globe, so it’s been exciting.”
