How Vizrt’s TriCaster Mini S Helps Students Learn Real-World Media Production Skills
By Stephanie R
In today’s classrooms, education is about more than textbooks and tests—it’s about preparing students for the world beyond graduation. Across Japan, one forward-thinking school took that mission to heart, using live production technology to teach teamwork, creativity, and communication in a hands-on, exciting way.

At Toyama Municipal Hayahoshi Junior High School, students participated in the “14-Year-Old Challenge,” a regional career-readiness program where they took on the roles of live producers, directors, and on-air talent. Their task? Create a full-scale live broadcast on YouTube using the Vizrt TriCaster Mini S—a compact, all-in-one production system designed for professional-quality streaming.
With support from KAN-NARI Co., Ltd., an ASK M&E partner, the students learned everything from setting up cameras and managing live graphics to understanding signal flow and teamwork. Over the course of five days, they transformed from curious beginners into confident content creators, running a full broadcast called Toyama no Asobiba! TV.

The technology behind their success played a big role. The TriCaster Mini S—powered by NDI, a network-based video protocol—simplified setup with minimal cabling, making it easy for students to focus on creativity instead of technical hurdles. With built-in tools for live switching, chroma keying, and streaming, it gave them access to the same features used by professional studios.
By the end of the project, students didn’t just understand how to make a live show—they understood how real media teams work together under pressure.
Educators worldwide can take inspiration from this approach. When schools integrate intuitive, professional-grade tools like the TriCaster Mini S, students gain more than technical skills—they gain confidence, collaboration, and real-world readiness.
