LiveU Shortens IP Workflows with its New SMPTE ST 2110 Receiver
By Jennifer P
LiveU has unveiled a groundbreaking addition to its suite of solutions for the broadcast industry, the LU4000 ST 2110, a single 4K/Quad HD video receiver that significantly streamlines the transition towards end-to-end IP workflows. As the broadcasting landscape continues to evolve, LiveU leverages its extensive experience in IP-video to provide an efficient and adaptable solution for receiving high-quality LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) live content feeds from any LiveU EcoSystem device and seamlessly outputting them as 2110-compliant streams. This new device eliminates complexity and ensures uninterrupted connectivity from the field to the broadcast facility, simplifying operations for broadcasters and content creators.
The LU4000 ST 2110 operates as an all-in-one receiver in the video chain, offering several advantages. It reduces IT costs, time, and overhead, allowing broadcasters to focus on their creative content rather than managing multiple devices. Building upon LiveU’s LRT protocol, this receiver enables a resilient, low latency IP-to-IP workflow, accommodating a single 4K video feed or up to four full HD live feeds. This scalability enhances the flexibility and adaptability of ST 2110, catering to the diverse needs of broadcasters.
One of the standout features of the LU4000 ST 2110 is its ability to be swiftly deployed regardless of network configuration. Automated tasks, such as routing, switching, and processing of separate bonded video, audio, and data streams, streamline the workflow and ensure a seamless user experience. Furthermore, this receiver is fully NMOS-compliant, simplifying device discovery and control, and its future-proof architecture allows for further workflow simplifications, ensuring customers are prepared for evolving technologies.
Redundancy is a critical concern in the broadcasting world, and the LU4000 ST 2110 meets the highest 2022-7 SMPTE-defined path redundancy standard. This ensures stable stream transmission and consistent performance, bolstered by hardware-based Precision Time Protocol (PTP) feed synchronization, which further enhances the reliability and peace of mind for broadcasters.
Yulia Rozmarin, Director of Product Management at LiveU, emphasized the significance of this release in the context of evolving broadcast workflows. She noted that IP-video is increasingly integral to their customers’ workflows, with many opting for an “IP first” approach when building or upgrading broadcast facilities. Rozmarin highlighted the challenges associated with managing complexity in IP workflows and underscored the LU4000 ST 2110’s role in simplifying the transition. This innovation eliminates the need to manage and maintain separate receivers and transcoders, facilitating a smoother flow between LRT and ST 2110. It empowers customers to leverage the creative possibilities offered by LiveU’s LRT-powered EcoSystem directly within their SMPTE ST 2110 facilities, simplifying their operations while maintaining robustness.
Rozmarin further emphasized that adaptability and flexibility are core principles of LiveU’s approach, ensuring that customers can confidently embrace the future, whether it be in the realm of IP or the enduring relevance of SDI. In essence, LiveU’s LU4000 ST 2110 represents a significant step towards simplifying the complexities of modern broadcasting while ensuring that the industry remains agile and prepared for the evolving landscape.
