Norwood Community Media Uses Facilis HUB24 Server to Power Production and Archiving

Facilis’s recent article highlights Norwood Community Media (NCM) in Massachusetts: a standout example of what community broadcasting can achieve with the right tools and leadership. Celebrating over 20 years of service, NCM operates from a professional-grade facility within Norwood High School, producing a wide range of content—from daily student-led newscasts to local sports coverage and municipal broadcasts. Under the direction of Jack Tolman, who was the first employee hired in 2004, the station has become a breeding ground for media professionals and a five-time recipient of the Alliance for Community Media’s Overall Excellence award.

To manage their growing content library and support a smooth post-production workflow, NCM relies on a Facilis HUB24 server with 192TB of storage. This is their third generation of Facilis storage since they first adopted the technology in 2011. Each new system has expanded in capacity, keeping pace with higher-resolution formats and increasing production demands. With editing workstations running Adobe Premiere Pro and connected via Ethernet, the HUB24 enables seamless collaboration across the entire team.

Archiving is also a major priority for NCM. Their HUB24 system is backed by a Facilis Object LTO library managed through FastTracker asset management. This provides automated backups and unlimited storage potential via offloaded LTO tapes. It’s more than a fail-safe—it’s a full-blown historical archive, safeguarding decades of footage, including rare clips that date back to World War II. In Jack Tolman’s words, “We never think twice about staying with Facilis,” and with over a decade of reliable uptime, it’s clear why.
