Pete Tomkies’ blog post for Videomaker introduces Panasonic’s new flagship micro four-thirds mirrorless camera, the Panasonic LUMIX GH7. The GH7 succeeds the LUMIX GH6, featuring a new 25.2 MP BSI CMOS sensor with over 13 stops of dynamic range. For video recording, it supports up to 5.7K 30p in ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes RAW HQ, 10-bit 4:2:2 DCI/UHD 4K up to 60p, and 10-bit 4:2:0 up to 120 fps. It also offers 5.8K full-sensor open gate recording and unlimited video recording up to C4K 60p, thanks to its internal cooling fan.
The GH7 boasts high-speed PDAF, real-time autofocus for airplanes and trains, and advanced image stabilization. Notably, it is the first interchangeable lens digital camera to provide 32-bit float audio recording, which requires an optional adapter. The camera includes CFexpress Type B and UHS-II SD card slots, Real Time LUT, proxy recording, and native Camera to Cloud integration with Adobe Frame.io. It is designed for harsh conditions with dust, splash, and freeze resistance.
Tomkies highlights the GH7’s impressive specifications, particularly its internal ProRes HQ/RAW recording and 32-bit float audio, which simplify workflows for solo shooters and ensure high-quality video production. The LUMIX GH7 is anticipated to be highly popular among micro four-thirds camera users.
