PTZOptics Case Study: PTZOptics Refreshes Orleans Town Hall’s Livestreaming Setup With 7 NDI®|HX Cameras and More
By Jamie G
Orleans Town Hall faced challenges when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, and with the help of NDI, PTZOptics and Kevin Shanley of East West Associates they were able to come to a solution. In this case study, rAVe Team explains how Sarah Eaton who has been with Town Hall for fifteen years and her coworker Mia Baumgarte needed a solution for streaming during the pandemic. They knew their equipment wouldn’t be able to handle the upcoming productions, and that’s when they turned to Kevin Shanley of East West Associates for advice and help putting together a smooth workflow.
Eaton and Baumgarten decided to record all regulatory meetings, boards, and committees and live stream these meetings to the public online and via local television (Channel 18), as well as streamed and available on-demand through the Orleans Town Hall Website and they needed reliable equipment to do so.
“We wanted to make sure we worked with them to bring in a fully integrated solution to meet their needs and meet the needs of the town as they continue to grow.”
Kevin Shanley
They needed equipment for two meetings rooms, one larger and one smaller. Both with U-shaped tables. They decided to install seven PTZOptics NDI|HX PTZ cameras, three in the small conference room and four in the large—for a variety of wide and close-up shots. The wall mounted cameras allowed all the particpants around the U-shaped tables to be seen.
All cameras are fed into a switcher running vMix, which has internal PTZ controls. The system is run by either Eaton or Baumgarten who are able to control both meetings at the same time.
“Not only do they often have 2 meetings going on at once, but they also publicly have a phone number or tech support if someone can’t get on. They not only run two meetings, but they run full tech support for participants and community members to ensure they can tune in. That is something no one else has.”
Kevin Shanley
With the success they’ve seen they are already planning for the future and to take cameras and set them up via NDI to loop in exterior buildings like the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) room in the police station. They plan to test it out for remote control to send feed over the network to Town Hall, so it can be live streamed over the government access channel.
