By Jim Bask 0 Comment October 4, 2018

Atomos has released their latest highly portable recording unit, the 5-inch Ninja V 4Kp60 HDMI/SDI HDR monitor/recorder. For video production, Ninja V offers connectivity with a wide range of cameras including the new mirrorless DSLRs. Ninja V can eliminate a camera’s internal compression and time limits – it can record up to 4Kp60 10-bit HDR video direct from a camera’s sensor over HDMI 2.0, and offers storage add-in options of up to 150 Tb. For gaming, Ninja V is a stand-alone system for 4k UHD, HDR and high frame rate capture that eliminates expensive, complicated and unreliable PC setups.

New Mirrorless Cameras Are Serious About 4K, with 10-Bit 4:2:2 Output (and HDR) via HDMI

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 20, 2018

As the arms race in mirrorless cameras heats up — led by Sony, which was an early proponent of the technology with its Alpha A7R and A7S cameras — the smaller, lighter DSLR alternatives are becoming more numerous and fully featured. That’s never been more apparent than it is right now, with new models from Fujifilm as well as mirrorless newcomers Canon and Nikon taking pains to appeal to video shooters as much as they do to still photographers

Hands-On with the HDMI Atomos Ninja V recorder/monitor

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 14, 2018

With only a few days left before I leave to IBC in Amsterdam Atomos contacted me and asked if I would like to get my hands on the new Ninja V. I, of course, said yes! They sent a preproduction Ninja V to check out.
I first saw the 5″ HDMI monitor/recorder at NAB 2018 and was impressed with the design, however, the Ninja V wasn’t ready for prime time yet as Atomos didn’t power it up for us to see the 1000 nit screen and new user interface. Well, today I have my hands on a working Ninja V. Since it’s still in beta software some of the icons will look different but for the most part the layout of the menu and interface is what you see her

Matrox. These guys make amazing streaming kit that really does work! We use it (so it can’t be “that hard” to set up) for our live shows and they encode fantastic quality image and are hugely reliable. A true “streaming appliance”. They also have a huge range of converters and various recorders as well. Pop over and say Matt from RedShark said to say Hi. Hall 7, B15.

Atomos quick to take advantage of EOS R’s external recording

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 12, 2018

Whenever a new product that moves the goalposts drops on the market, other companies are very quick to line up and show you how you can hit the ball into the back of the new net. Atomos is skilled at doing this, and while it has nothing with the EOS R to match the time it launched the Ninja Inferno and upgraded Panasonic’s GH5 from its shipping internal 8-bit 4:2:0 Long GOP to 10-bit, 4:2:2, ProRes/DNxHR in one fell stroke, its kit is a good match for the new camera.
