High-Performance Flash-Based System Takes Data from Recording Units On-Set to Project Storage Back in the Office
G-Technology and Atomos have been hard at work since their partnership was first announced at Cine Gear Expo in June. Evidence will be on display at IBC, where G-Technology is rolling out a line of new, co-branded gear led by the Atomos Master Caddy 4K and Atomos Master Caddy HD.
We live in a fantastic time for film where 4K is fast becoming the norm both at home and in theaters, while the technology to shoot breathtaking visuals is coming in smaller form factors. Everything is getting better and smaller, with the exception of data — data is getting exponentially larger.

G-Technology has expanded their ev Drive line-up, doubling its maximum capacity to 2TB. The highly versatile Evolution Series drives can be used as a stand alone rugged USB 3 portable hard drive or plugged into a Shuttle for quick offload and duplication.
G-Technology this week introduced several new models of its G-Drive and G-RAID products with Thunderbolt 1, USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt 2 soltions. These are direct attached storage (DAS) devices, based on the latest hard drives featuring 10 TB capacity. The new DAS products aim to significantly increase performance and capacities of devices aimed at consumers and prosumers. The introduction of such storage solutions emphasizes that Western Digital (which owns the HGST and the G-Technology brands) is moving its helium-filled HDDs into the consumer space.
As a MacBook owner, USB-C peripherals are still a little hard to come by. The accessory situation has improved significantly over the past year. One of the latest USB-C-centric peripherals to hit the scenes is an external bus-powered hard drive from the folks over at G-Technology. Professional storage brand G-Technology continues its trend of collaboration through a recent partnership with Atomos. While Cine Gear could be characterized as the smaller sibling of NAB Show, this year’s Cine Gear had its share of news, much of it centering around collaborative efforts between companies, headlined by the reveal of the Panavision DXL camera, an upcoming 8K shooter sporting a RED Dragon sensor, Panavision body and Light Iron camera software.
At NAB 2016, G-Tech released their first shared storage product, the G-RACK 12.
In the past, G-Tech has made large drive arrays that used ATTO or Highpoint RAID controllers, but over the years, seemed to have phased these out, concentrating on smaller drive arrays, that were more affordable. This changed in 2015, when G-Tech released the G-Tech Studio XL, which was a full 8 bay RAID array for Thunderbolt 2 systems, that could support up to 8 TB SATA hard drives, for up to 64 TB of RAID protected storage. This product became wildly successful for them.
