Media Composer — Best of 2017

By Jim Bask 0 Comment December 13, 2017

2017 was a big year for Media Composer. Avid introduced many cool features to help improve the everyday editing experience. Some were big and grabbed a lot of attention (Hello, ScriptSync and 8K Project presets!) and some were smaller, but still very useful. Many of them were requested and voted upon by our Avid Customer Association. (Speaking of which, if you’re not already a member of the ACA, you should check it out. At the very least, come party with us at Avid Connectbefore we kick off NAB 2018!)

By Jim Bask 0 Comment November 16, 2017

Never has it been a better time to be an effects and visual effects geek like me. Boris FX has cornered the market on the high end visual effects, with their flagship plug-in package, Boris Continuum Complete, they purchased both Imagineer Systems as well as GenArts, to lock up the best tracking and roto application on the market today, Mocha (Pro/AE/BCC/Sapphire), and they finished their acquisition a few months ago of GenArts, bringing the highest of the high end visual effects into the mix. Boris FX (we no longer say GenArts Sapphire, it’s now simply Boris FX Sapphire 11) has recently released the next version of Sapphire, Sapphire 11, so let’s take an in-depth look, and see if this newest update is worth your hard earned dollars.

And the best news is all these new features are available now.

Breaking the Speed Limit with VEGAS Pro 15

By Jim Bask 0 Comment November 6, 2017

We know it’s been a long time coming for true improvements in the area of hardware acceleration for rendering in VEGAS Pro. When we took over production of VEGAS Pro nearly a year and a half ago, nothing was closer to the top of our priority list than this. In VEGAS Pro 14, we introduced hardware-accelerated HEVC rendering for both 8-bit and 10-bit rendering.
