By Jim Bask 0 Comment October 7, 2016

G-Technology started using HGST’s helium-filled hard drives in their direct-attached storage (DAS) products earlier this year. The product lines utilizing these 8TB and 10TB drives include:

The Matrox Monarch LCS is an inexpensive dual-input lecture capture solution with two output channels that can be independently set for recording and/or streaming.

PostPerspective Review of Avid Media Composer 8.5 and 8.6

By Jim Bask 0 Comment October 4, 2016

It seems that nonlinear editing systems, like Adobe Premiere, Apple FCP X, Lightworks, Vegas and Blackmagic Resolve are being updated almost weekly. At first, I was overjoyed with the frequent updates. It got to the point where I would see a new codec released on a Monday and by Friday you could edit with it (maybe a slight exaggeration, but pretty close to the truth). Unfortunately, this didn’t always mean the updates would work.

Videomaker Reviews G-Tech G-SPEED Shuttle XL

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 6, 2016

The G-Technology Shuttle XL is a large, fast and portable storage solution for those that make money producing video. Expandable to 80TB, the Shuttle XL can be configured to accept less-common formats including RED MINI-MAG.

There’s no doubt the need for bigger and bigger storage solutions will only continue to grow in the foreseeable future. With higher bit rates, it’s inevitable that we will all have huge storage arrays eventually. For some, that time is now. If you shoot RAW, you need a place to store it. If you just shoot a lot, then you need a place to store it. If your video is valuable, or needs to be archived, you need a place to store it. Frankly, everyone either needs or will need a data solution.

Videomaker Telestream Wirecast 7 Review

At NAB this year, we were on the hunt for a Facebook Live solution that fit our unique need here at Videomaker. At the time, you could only use the camera built into your smartphone to stream to Facebook. While we did find products like the Mevo and heard rumblings of what would become DJI Go’s integration with Facebook Live, we needed to be able to switch between multiple sources to present the content and information in the way we wanted.

AudioMediaInternational Reviews Avid Pro Tools 12.5

By Jim Bask 0 Comment June 28, 2016

pro tools 12.5There has been much talk about the DAW’s new Cloud Collaboration feature, but does it live up to the hype? Simon Allen finds out…

Like many, I have been keeping a careful eye on the developments Avid has been making with Pro Tools. The company has seen some tough times recently and end users have been sceptical about the constant flow of updates. Plug-in and third-party software manufacturers have had to play catch up, providing new 64-bit AAX versions of its products. However, there is apparently light at the end of the tunnel, and in my opinion Pro Tools has something to shout about again.

Pro Tools has now reached version 12.5, which has accumulated several small but significant updates since my last review of the software.
