In February of 2018, we saw a seismic shift in the leadership at Avid. Chief executive officer Louis Hernandez Jr. was removed and subsequently replaced by Jeff Rosica. Once Rosica was installed, people who worried Avid was about to be liquidated to the highest bidder breathed a sigh of temporary relief. We wanted to see where the new action plan from Avid, specifically on where Media Composer and Symphony were going.
Background save, uninterrupted playback from the timeline, and a new background rendering service are among the fresh features arriving this year in Avid Media Composer, driven by feedback from Avid’s user base.
While I hated missing out on the Avid keynote the Saturday before NAB began, I knew I had another chance to heard Avid’s new CEO Jeff Rosisca speak … when I sat down to interview him on Tuesday of the show. I didn’t think I would get to do this interview as I requested it the week before NAB and I know that’s a busy time for and CEO, the week before the biggest trade show of the year. But a Twitter message to Jeff was returned promptly and the interview was setup.
Trade show time! You know what that means, it’s also time for another big update to the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of video tools and, of course, Adobe Premiere Pro. This NAB season is no exception and while PPro doesn’t get a lot of big, never-before-seen, long-in-the-making, Earth-shattering new features we do get several nice enhancements to some existing tools.

This update was made available from Avid Master Accounts, Application Manager, and the Avid Download Center (login and password required). Media Composer | First 8.9 was also released at the same time, and is available from Avid Master Accounts and Application Manager.
