The Behind-the-Scenes of NAB Show LIVE Will Be a Major Technology Demonstration in Itself
By Jennifer P
Broadcast Beat recently posted an article about how they will use the latest technology to be streaming from the NAB 2023 show in Las Vegas, back to the Broadcast Beat Studio in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. NAB Show 2023 is a great example of how technology is transforming the broadcasting industry, allowing for remote production and real-time streaming of events across the globe.
Ryan Salazar, the founder of Broadcast Beat and Executive Producer of NAB Show LIVE, explained how this year’s show is going to be different from years past. This year they will be using 6 LiveU LU600s, and 2 LiveU LU800s to carry several other live camera feeds throughout the venue.
“Our coverage of NAB Show will cover every aspect of the event, from the various pavilions to interviews with notable figures attending the show. Using advanced bonded cellular and IP technology, we will be totally mobile and live from anywhere in Las Vegas.”

The LiveU LU2000–SMPTE 2110 Bonded Video Decoders are essential for decoding all of the LiveU signals and making them compliant with SMPTE 2110. This is important because SMPTE 2110 is a standard for professional media over managed IP networks, providing a common framework for video, audio, and metadata.
The LiveU LU600 is a powerful bonded cellular system that is ideal for newsgathering, live sports, and events coverage. Its compact size and four-hour battery make it easy to use in the field, while its HEVC video card provides high-quality video with reduced bandwidth usage. This is particularly important when transmitting video over cellular networks, which can be prone to congestion and network instability.
The LiveU LU800 production field units are also impressive, with the ability to handle four simultaneous video feeds and operate on 5G cellular networks. This is particularly useful for covering events like the NAB Show, where multiple cameras are capturing content from different angles. Having a second unit for redundancy purposes is also a smart move, as it ensures that the broadcast can continue uninterrupted even if one unit fails.
LiveU’s technology is playing a crucial role in the success of the NAB Show LIVE broadcast, allowing for reliable and high-quality transmission of video content from Las Vegas to Florida and beyond.
“We’re returning to NAB for the 14th year to share tangible ways that customers can reduce production costs, meet the increased demand for quality content and optimize the monetization of their content assets by leveraging cloud-based workflows. We’re excited for Broadcast Beat, in collaboration with NAB, to demonstrate our technology during several live stage productions planned for NAB 2023.”

The use of Fujifilm lenses, including the XF18-120, MKX18-55 and MKX50-135 models, is also noteworthy, as these lenses are known for their high-quality optics and versatility. The fact that a firmware update for the cameras will make Frame.io C2C available to all Fujifilm customers owning the X-H2 and X-H2S cameras with the FT-XH wireless adapter is also significant. This will allow more Fujifilm customers to take advantage of the benefits of Frame.io C2C technology, which is a powerful tool for fast and efficient transfer of video content.
The use of NewTek’s TriCaster 2 Elite production platform for NAB Show LIVE is a smart choice, as it is one of the most advanced production systems available. The TriCaster 2 Elite is designed to handle a wide range of inputs and can manage all aspects of the production process, including video, audio, graphics, automation, and routing.
One of the key features of the TriCaster 2 Elite is its ability to stream productions to various platforms. This is essential for a broadcast like NAB Show LIVE, which is being aired internationally over the internet. By using the TriCaster 2 Elite, the production team can ensure that the broadcast is streamed seamlessly to viewers around the world.
The use of the TriCaster 2 Elite for NAB Show LIVE is a testament to its versatility and advanced capabilities. With its ability to manage multiple inputs and handle all aspects of the production process, the TriCaster 2 Elite is an ideal choice for a complex live remote production broadcast like NAB Show LIVE.
