World’s Fastest Memory Card Unlocks Faster Camera Speeds

Western Digital has launched the world’s fastest UHS-1 flash memory card, the 400GB SanDisk Extreme UHS-1 microSDXC, at his year’s Mobile World Congress.
Speed is one of many issues deterring smartphone manufacturers from supporting expandable memory in their mobile devices. Removable memory cards are handy, but can’t match the speeds of a flagship phone’s internal RAM, thereby resulting in unacceptably low performance.
Similarly, today’s fastest cameras are capable of capturing huge volumes of data in a very short time, so the speed of plug-in memory cards can often become the limiting factor in how soon the camera can be ready to resume shooting once its internal buffers have filled.
Western Digital’s new card features read speeds of up to 160MB/sec and writes at up to 90MB/sec, making it 50% faster than the previous fastest model. …read more
