Industry-first adoption of NDI 6.3 discoverability features delivers plug-and-play IP video across multi-subnet enterprise, broadcast, and campus networks
LONDON (June 9, 2026) – NDI, the global standard for plug-and-play IP video connectivity, today announced that BirdDog, a leading manufacturer of professional NDI hardware, has become the first hardware manufacturer to achieve full NDI 6.3 compatibility across its entire product lineup of cameras, encoders, and decoders. BirdDog hardware now natively supports NDI 6.3’s enhanced discoverability features. Those features include active Discovery Server registration through the new Sender Advertiser APIs, hostname-based device grouping, and real-time property broadcasting. This makes scalable IP video deployments far simpler, especially in segmented enterprise networks where that kind of simplicity has historically been difficult to achieve.
Before NDI 6.3, scaling across subnets was manual and complex. Discovery Server setup, IP tracking, and mDNS limitations made it difficult for sources and receivers to connect across VLANs. NDI 6.3 fixes that at the protocol level. Compatible BirdDog devices now auto-register with a central Discovery Server, route video via unicast, and send real-time status updates, significantly reducing deployment overhead.
“BirdDog has worked with NDI from the very beginning, so we understand what it takes to make IP video work reliably in real products and real workflows,” said Dan Miall, CEO of BirdDog. “NDI 6.3 removes more of the friction from large deployments, giving customers easier discovery, easier management, and more confidence as they scale. BirdDog solutions are ready to put those improvements to work.”
BirdDog embedded NDI 6.3’s Sender Advertiser APIs directly into device firmware across its full product range, a native hardware behavior, not a software overlay. Combined with NDI 6.2’s Receiver Discoverability support already in place, both encoders and decoders are now fully visible and addressable across the network. Operators gain end-to-end signal visibility and real-time routing control through BirdDog Connect, BirdDog’s centralized management platform.
“With NDI 6.3, we are making it easier for organizations to deploy and scale NDI across more complex network environments,” said Miguel Coutinho, Head of NDI. “That is an important step in expanding what the ecosystem can support.”
The practical outcome for operators is significant. An IT director deploying 50 cameras and decoders across a multi-building campus can now power up devices that automatically appear named, grouped, and ready to route without manual source entry or specialist network configuration. In broadcast and education environments where multicast is restricted between segments, NDI 6.3’s unicast model resolves subnet visibility at the protocol level, preserving IT network segmentation without limiting production capability.
