Using NewTek Connect Pro to Monitor NDI Sources from Other Devices
By Jim Bask
NewTek Connect Pro can serve a variety of video sources as NDI streams for a video production IP workflow, plus give you quality controls for the video streams it provides. The application’s capabilities go beyond the system on which it is installed, however. NewTek Connect Pro can also help you turn any available system or device in your production suite into a multiviewer on which you can monitor any of the available NDI streams present on the network. Yes, you heard that right – you can leverage NewTek Connect Pro on one system from other systems or devices, to make them useful in your production workflow. This is because the application includes NDI Connect Webserver, which can be accessed by other systems and devices on the network. You can then use these to monitor NDI streams from any source on the network. This is not limited to the NDI streams that NewTek Connect Pro is serving.

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers committee at work on a new standard for professional video over IP is nearing the stage where its work can be put to the test. Camera technology is not the only reason it’s an exciting time to be a filmmaker. Some of these devices provide functionality shooters have long sought after, and still others bring capabilities some of us may never have even dreamed of. The Teradek Cube is one such device, and here is the first part of my full review.

At the CES show Atomos CEO Jeromy Young ran me through the functions of the Atomos Shogun Inferno recorder when combined with the new Panasonic GH5. The combination of GH5 and Inferno gives the option for 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 at 60P external ProRes recording from a prosumer mirrorless camera for the first time. Jeromy also confirmed that you also record 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 at 24,25 and 30P with the older Atomos 4K recorders.
