Making the Cut: Matrox Helps the Australian Screen Editors Guild Webcast Inaugural Edit Royale Event

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 18, 2018

The Australian Screen Editors (ASE) guild is dedicated to the pursuit and recognition of excellence in the arts, sciences, and technology of motion picture film and televisual post production. It aims to promote and protect the role of the editor as an essential and significant contributor to all screen productions. One such promotional event held by the guild is the Sydney Edit Royale, where five emerging editors are given just two hours to edit and complete a one-minute music video using never-before-seen video footage and music. To make an impression, editors have to demonstrate their creativity and speed using only an AppleĀ® iMacĀ® computer and the editing software of their choice. At stake are two tickets to attend the Annual Australian Screen Editor Awards (The Ellies), and more importantly, an opportunity to make an impression across the industry.

DEVINSUPERTRAMP: FLYING, FREEZING, AND FALLING INTO MILLIONS OF FOLLOWERS

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 17, 2018

Devin Graham, aka devinsupertramp, made that journey. We wanted to profile him not just because he’s a rabid G-Technology user, but mostly because he’s awesome. That sounds silly and hyperbolic, we know. It’s not. Look at his extreme sports work. Rarely have we seen such a consistently impressive mix of beauty, athleticism, insanity, and all-out fun from an artist. Follow his work and you’ll see phrases like ā€œprobably not our safest ideaā€ pop up repeatedly. If you have any fond memory of childhood, and any aesthetic appreciation as a creative adult, you’ll find devinsupertramp irresistible.

Hands-On with the HDMI Atomos Ninja V recorder/monitor

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 14, 2018

With only a few days left before I leave to IBC in Amsterdam Atomos contacted me and asked if I would like to get my hands on the new Ninja V. I, of course, said yes! They sent a preproduction Ninja V to check out.
I first saw the 5″ HDMI monitor/recorder at NAB 2018 and was impressed with the design, however, the Ninja V wasn’t ready for prime time yet as Atomos didn’t power it up for us to see the 1000 nit screen and new user interface. Well, today I have my hands on a working Ninja V. Since it’s still in beta software some of the icons will look different but for the most part the layout of the menu and interface is what you see her

Matrox. These guys make amazing streaming kit that really does work! We use it (so it can’t be ā€œthat hardā€ to set up) for our live shows and they encode fantastic quality image and are hugely reliable. A true “streaming appliance”. They also have a huge range of converters and various recorders as well. Pop over and say Matt from RedShark said to say Hi. Hall 7, B15.

City of Highland Park Upgrades to Mobile HD Studio

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 13, 2018

System integrators and Elite NewTek resellers Key Code Media worked with the City of Highland Park, IL, to move up from SD production to a mobile HD studio. Home to a variety of festivals and events that the city production team covers, and a local government that values live broadcast and streaming of meetings and sessions, mobile production made sense. Key Code saw to ensuring future-proof production by making the 4K-capable All-IP NewTek TriCasterĀ® TC1 the heart of the live production suite. The TC1 system is the most complete multi-camera live production system on the planet, providing the backbone switching, live streaming, recording, graphics, digital effects, keying, layering, virtual sets and social media publishing tools to produce a modern broadcast from studio or onsite.
