Why SMPTE ST 2110 Is Becoming the Standard for Broadcast IP Infrastructure
By Stephanie R
As broadcasters continue transitioning from SDI to IP, SMPTE ST 2110 has emerged as the leading standard for professional media transport. Unlike SDI, which carries video, audio, and metadata together, ST 2110 transports each as independent synchronized streams, providing greater routing flexibility, scalability, and interoperability across complex production environments.
For system integrators and broadcast engineers, ST 2110 enables more efficient facility design, supports distributed and remote production, and creates a standards-based foundation for future expansion. Although not every project requires ST 2110, organizations building large-scale broadcast infrastructure are increasingly adopting the standard to support next-generation IP production workflows.
