How AJA Solutions Help Basel Academy of Art and Design Modernize AV and Broadcast Workflows
By Stephanie R
The Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW has transformed its AV infrastructure by adopting AJA solutions to support a wide range of live productions, events, and educational content. With disciplines spanning fashion, media, and design, the institution required a flexible and scalable workflow capable of handling everything from TED-style presentations to large-scale fashion shows. By integrating AJA technologies like BRIDGE LIVE and OG-DANTE-12GAM, the academy has built a modern, connected production environment that supports both in-venue experiences and global streaming.
A key example of this transformation is the academy’s multi-location fashion show production, which spanned three venues across 500 meters and utilized over 20 cameras, including PTZ systems for minimal audience disruption. Using AJA BRIDGE LIVE, the team was able to ingest multiple video sources and stream content simultaneously in different formats and languages, while OG-DANTE-12GAM enabled seamless audio integration across Dante networks. This combination allowed centralized control of decentralized production resources, improving both efficiency and scalability.
Beyond individual events, AJA’s openGear ecosystem has helped simplify system management and reduce infrastructure complexity. With remote configuration, reduced cabling, and reliable power redundancy, the academy can manage multiple devices across locations with minimal staff. This has been particularly valuable in addressing industry-wide talent shortages, enabling smaller teams to operate sophisticated production systems. As the academy continues to explore cloud-based workflows and future AI-driven management tools, AJA’s solutions provide a strong foundation for ongoing innovation in AV and broadcast education.
