By Jim Bask 0 Comment October 10, 2016

Editors Keys very kindly lent the site a backlit illuminated FCPX keyboard to try out. So why not take it out on a real job and use it under pressure? What was the verdict?

PostPerspective Review of Avid Media Composer 8.5 and 8.6

By Jim Bask 0 Comment October 4, 2016

It seems that nonlinear editing systems, like Adobe Premiere, Apple FCP X, Lightworks, Vegas and Blackmagic Resolve are being updated almost weekly. At first, I was overjoyed with the frequent updates. It got to the point where I would see a new codec released on a Monday and by Friday you could edit with it (maybe a slight exaggeration, but pretty close to the truth). Unfortunately, this didn’t always mean the updates would work.

Solutions for worship live streaming

I had the pleasure of being part of the Epiphan Video staff at WFX 2016 in Louisville, Kentucky on September 21 and 22. This annual show moves around to different locations each year, and brings with it physical and technology-based solutions for churches and worship. The show this year included everything from seating, stages and lighting to music and, of course, live streaming.

At the Epiphan Video booth, we showcased our new Pearl-2 system and AV.io 4K.

vegaspro14-blog

The Vegas world was excited in April 2014 with the release of Vegas Pro 13 at NAB. With a typical release at NAB or IBC, everyone was waiting for an announcement in April 2015 at NAB for the next version of Vegas – but none came. This was not totally out of line so the wait came for IBC in September of 2015. However, no announcement came at that time either. Then April 2016 came around and Sony Creative Software did not even attend NAB leaving Vegas users questioning was was happening with their favorite NLE.

The Next Best Thing Since Peanut Butter and Jelly: The MDS Streaming Appliance

By Jim Bask 0 Comment September 30, 2016

mds-pbj-blog-wowzaMy son is allergic to peanuts. I, on the other hand, can’t fathom a world without peanut butter, specifically peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Although he’ll likely never eat that perfect sandwich himself, I have hope that he’ll understand the perfection of the peanut butter and jelly combination. That hope lies in the forthcoming all-in-one streaming appliance from Wowza and NewTek that simplifies the workflow for people who want to produce high-quality live video and distribute it seamlessly to their global audience.

Peanut butter and jelly. Hardware and software. The two powerhouses of the condiment world. The two industry leaders in streaming. It just makes sense.
