Review: Logickeyboard Astra Backlit Editing Keyboard

By Jim Bask 0 Comment July 22, 2016

Astra Keybaord

Check out this review of the LogicKeyboard Astra Backlit Editing Keyboard

Ok, it’s just a keyboard, right? Not quite! While Logickeyboard may not be the first out of the gate to offer a backlit keyboard for post production, to my mind the brand-new Astra offers a ton of bang-for-the-buck features, and addresses some deficiencies I’ve seen in the only competition in this narrow product field. (I reviewed a competitor in Post’s May 2015 issue.)

g-drive-4

As a MacBook owner, USB-C peripherals are still a little hard to come by. The accessory situation has improved significantly over the past year. One of the latest USB-C-centric peripherals to hit the scenes is an external bus-powered hard drive from the folks over at G-Technology. If you’re looking for a way to quickly offload files to and from your MacBook, the G-Drive mobile is a good option.

Check out this video review on how well the G-Drive Mobile 1TB works with MacBook.

NDI and Live Titling

By Jim Bask 0 Comment July 20, 2016

NDI technology delivers extremely low-latency video streams over a local area network such as the 1Gbps Ethernet network in your office or studio. Previously, if you had two TriCaster systems in two different studios, you may have had to string an HD-SDI cable or fiber connection between them. Now, as long as the systems are connected on the same LAN, either system can send a stream to the other over the network.

Using 4K video for live event capture with Epiphan Video

By Jim Bask 0 Comment July 20, 2016

AVio-4K_diagram4K video isn’t just the latest fad, it’s becoming the new standard. In the near future, any live video production is going to need to use 4K video (or UHD Video, as the 3840×2160 resolution is often referred to) in order to remain competitive. This isn’t just because it’s a new novelty, either – there are genuine benefits that come from the format, ranging from greater display range, to better behind-the-scenes editing.

The benefits are huge, but computers are having trouble keeping up, since the amount of information captured by a 4K camera can sometimes tax even the best processors.
