LaCie Portable SSD is fastest in class & singularly beautiful to behold

By Jim Bask 0 Comment November 27, 2018

I think we have started to enter the golden age for traveling creators. Photographers and videographers alike now have so many options for cameras, lenses, bags and other tech that we can get just about anything we would need from many options across multiple vendors all for a relatively affordable price. Just about everything is made well, and every year it seems like we get even more outstanding choices. As a photographer that travels frequently, the last year or so has really seen a marked improvement in fast, compact and high-capacity external storage. Both G-Tech and SanDisk have released very, very good products in the compact SSD space in that time. Those two brands have been happy to pretty much own that space, but today that changes as LaCie has decided to throw their hat into that ring as well. With the announcement of the LaCie Portable SSD (not a super creative name, but that’s fine), LaCie didn’t seem content with just competing with the G-Technology Mobile SSD or the SanDisk SSD. From what I have seen, they wanted to make something better. With the launch of the Portable SSD, LaCie gives us a USB-C drive that matches the largest capacity SSD on the market in tandem with the best performance we’ve tested

What’s New in Rev 7 for TriCaster® TC1 and NewTek VMC1

By Jim Bask 0 Comment November 26, 2018

NewTek has released TriCaster® “Rev 7” software, as a free download in Products and Updates. This software applies to the TriCaster TC1 and NewTek VMC1 multi-camera 4Kp60 IP-based live production systems. It is the second version of software for these systems, so in some marketing and support materials you may see it referred to as “v2”.
The new software includes over 20 new features, some of which are complete new workflows. An example is the Express Switcher, which provides a greatly simplified UI, which can be perfect for content creators who frequently produce less complex programs, and those who depend on less experienced operators to work their productions.

I attended my first Adobe Max 2018 last week in Los Angeles. This huge conference takes over the LA convention center and overflows into the surrounding venues. It began on Monday morning with a two-and-a-half-hour keynote outlining the developments and features being released in the newest updates to Adobe’s Creative Cloud. This was followed by all sorts of smaller sessions and training labs for attendees to dig deeper into the new capabilities of the various tools and applications.

How to Stream Live to YouTube from TriCaster®

By Jim Bask 0 Comment November 15, 2018

Carla Schwartz and crew of CB99videos on YouTube have produced a complete and concise tutorial for using NewTek TriCaster® to stream live to YouTube. The tutorial specifically goes through the steps to create a YouTube Live event. Some of the steps to stream to YouTube need to be done on the TriCaster system, but many of the steps involved in setup on the YouTube side can be done from any available system. Using another system for those steps frees the TriCaster to prepare for, initiate, and deliver the live stream.
